Early Amtrak Across Wisconsin DVD
Pentrex 2007 1563422093 NEW CONDITION DVD
On May 1, 1971, Amtrak became Wisconsin s rail passenger carrier. Passenger service along the Burlington Northern s Mississippi River Route ended as did all service on the Chicago & North Western. Famous train names such as the Milwaukee Road s Hiawathas, C&NW s Streamliners, and Burlington Northern s North Coast Limited disappeared. When Amtrak began, only the Empire Builder and Chicago-to-Milwaukee corridor service were spared, and the Builder was rerouted from the BN onto the Milwaukee s Twin Cities line.
By November, 1971, Amtrak was ready for some new Wisconsin trains. Added were Hiawatha trains to the Twin Cities; North Coast Hiawatha trains to Seattle via Southern Montana; and St. Louis service through Chicago to Milwaukee. Things were looking up for Wisconsin s rail passenger service!
The first vestiges of Amtrak paint slowly appeared in 1972 and in 1973 there were brand new Amtrak engines. However, mismatched Rainbow consists were still the rule. GM&O heavyweight parlor cars often appeared as did Denver, Kansas City and California Zephyr Silver dome-observation cars. Soon the E and F locomotives would disappear forever, but in these vintage years they still dominated the trains.
Early Amtrak Across Wisconsin follows Amtrak from the Twin Cities to Southern Wisconsin in the years 1971-73. Locations include such railroading hot spots as St. Croix Junction south of St. Paul, La Crosse, and Duplainville Tower west of Milwaukee. There are scenic views along the Mississippi River and many photo locations in the metro Milwaukee area. The Amtrak trains you will see include:
The Empire Builder
The Hiawatha
The North Coast Hiawatha
The Abraham Lincoln
Also included are views of pre-Amtrak trains along the Burlington Northern s now freight-only Mississippi River Route, the Milwaukee Road s commuter Cannonball, and many freights on the Milwaukee, BN, and SOO Lines. The 1972 and 1973 Schlitz Brewing Circus Trains appear. Finally, we see Amtrak s City of New Orleans, South Wind, Super Chief, and others in the metro Chicago area. You ll find great variety in this look at Early Amtrak Across Wisconsin!

Big Boy Combo Part 1 DVD
Pentrex 2005 1563421526 NEW CONDITION DVD
Measuring 132 feet long and weighing one and a quarter million pounds, the Union Pacific Big Boys were the largest, heaviest, most powerful steam locomotives of their type. In Pentrex s Big Boy Combo Part 1, you ll see two fantastic shows presenting the Big Boys in all their glory!
Last of the Giants (23 Minutes)

This classic film is one you ll enjoy watching again and again.

Big Boy Combo Part 2 DVD
Pentrex 2005 1563421534 NEW CONDITION DVD
Weighing in at one and a quarter million pounds, measuring 132 feet long, Union Pacific Big Boys were the giants of the rails. Just 25 Big Boys were built and they only remained in service for 18 years before the end of the steam era. Yet their power and performance make them as popular today as in their own day. This Combo DVD brings you two viewing treats: a Pentrex documentary focusing on Big Boy operations over Sherman Hill and a 1950s television drama about a Big Boy engineer.
Last of the Giants Volume 3: Sherman Hill (70 Minutes)
Allan Krieg, writer and director of Last of the Giants, shares the challenges his camera crews faced while capturing the Big Boys on film. Scenes of the running gear in motion, shot from a camera car on a parallel track, and pacing sequences of the Big Boys on the road are thrilling to see. You ll ride in the cabs and watch the firemen and engineers at work. Interviews with surviving crewmembers give you a sense of what it was like to run these giant engines over Sherman Hill. All the scenes shown in this production are compiled from 16mm color film shot between 1955 and 1958.
Big Boys on TV (70 Minutes, Black & White)
Ed Begley stars in this 1950s NBC Lucky Strike Theater drama about a Big Boy engineer who is struggling with fears about his future. The live broadcast takes you right into the heart of this railroader s life at home and in the cab of his Big Boy. Pentrex incorporated some of the original footage shot on location showing Big Boys on Sherman Hill and in the Cheyenne yards. (It s all new material, not used in other Pentrex videos.) We also included the old commercials that aired with the broadcast. They will make you smile. This is a program the whole family can enjoy.

Cajon Pass-Tehachapi Loop DVD
Pentrex 1986 1563421461 NEW CONDITION DVD
Cajon Pass and Tehachapi Loop - these two Southern California railroading landmarks draw railfans from around the world seeking to experience the engineering ingenuity, spectacular scenery, and steady parade of trains that make these locations so appealing.
Never was that more true than in 1986 when this program was originally filmed. At that time most trains still had cabooses, Southern Pacific oil cans (the Tank Train ) still ran over Tehachapi, and many Santa Fe and Southern Pacific locomotives sported the short-lived red and yellow Kodachrome merger paint scheme. You could still see pure sets of blue and yellow Santa Fe power, including EMD SD45s, F45s, and FP45s and GE U36Cs and C30-7s. Southern Pacific also ran pure sets of its locomotives, including SD45s and tunnel motors, and Amtrak ran the Southwest Chief and the Desert Wind over Cajon with F40PH locomotives. The Santa Fe dispatcher s office was still located in the San Bernardino depot, and the Mojave depot was still in use.
These are the sights of the past but you can experience them and more in this incredible show. Ride a Union Pacific helper pushing a 12,000-ton coal train over Cajon. Visit the Santa Fe dispatcher s office in the San Bernardino depot and the hump yard and locomotive servicing facilities in Barstow. Thrill to cab rides on Cajon and Tehachapi. It s all here for you to savor again!
DVD Special Features: Bonus Footage: 19 minutes of updated coverage filmed in 2004. Two hi-fi soundtracks, one with the natural train sounds, the other with narration added. The viewer can switch the narration on or off at any time. Chapter Menu provides instant access to program segments. We begin on legendary Jing Peng Pass with its 40 miles of tunnels, 2% ruling grade, horse shoe curves, and spiral bridges entirely serviced by double-headed 2-10-2 QJ class locomotives. Next we take you to Daban where the entire fleet of 100 QJs are serviced. Note their resemblance to Union Pacific or NYC locomotives, with smoke box deflectors, Boxpok driving wheels, and large smokebox-mounted headlights, is remarkable. In the coal mining region of Tiefa, a fleet of thirty 2-8-2 SY class locomotives pull fast commuter trains with amazing frequency. Our camera catches the action there near a busy double diamond junction.
The Dahiuchang Limestone Quarry near Beijing is an enchanting narrow gauge steam line where we'll view endless strings of tiny ore cars pulled by miniature locomotives. At Anshan, we are granted rare access into one of the world's largest steel mills. It operates its own fleet of forty 2-8-2's and the activity level is incredible. Finally, we'll witness the awesome brute strength of three 2-8-2s straining full throttle up the 3.5 percent grade to the Chengde steel mill complex. This line has it all: steep curves, rock cuts, narrow tunnels, and terrific rural scenery. Experience the wonder of it all in China Steam Spectacular!

Classic St. Louis Railroading-Santa Fe Vintage Diesels Combo DVD
Pentrex 2003 1563421232 NEW CONDITION DVD
Eighteen different railroads could be seen in and around St. Louis in the mid-1960s and early 1970s, and railroad photographer Dick Wallin was kept busy recording those classic operations! Volume 4 of Pentrex's Fallen Flags Series takes you back in time to experience: Alton & Southern; Chicago & Eastern Illinois; Chicago & North Western; Chicago, Burlington & Quincy; Cotton Belt; Frisco; Gulf, Mobile & Ohio; Illinois Central; Louisville & Nashville; Manufacturer's Railway; Missouri-Kansas-Texas; Missouri Pacific; New York Central; Norfolk & Western (including locomotives still painted in Wabash and in Nickel Plate colors); Penn Central; Pennsylvania; Terminal Railroad Association; and early Amtrak. A huge variety of motive power and paint schemes can be seen.
EMD locomotives include E-and F-units, Geeps (including GP7s through GP40s), SW1200s and SW1500s, SD40s and SD45s, and a very rare TR1 cow/calf set. Alco RS2, RS3, RSD5, RS36, S2, FA, and a C424; as well as GE U25B, U30B, and U30C; and Fairbanks-Morse H10-44 are all on the scene and looking great!
The camera takes you to Union Station, Kirkwood, Glendale, and West Alton in Missouri; and East St. Louis, Madison, Mitchell, Bixby, Granite City, and Venice in Illinois. It's a fantastic journey back to the heart of American railroading! 48 Minutes In Color with Appropriate Stereo Sound and Narration.
Santa Fe Vintage Diesels Fallen Flags Series Volume I.
Pentrex pays tribute to the fallen flags of American railroading with an exciting retrospective of Santa Fe motive power in New Mexico, Kansas, and Illinois during the 1960s and 1970s. The 8mm films of noted railroad photographer Dick Wallin provide remarkable footage of rarely seen and uncommon locomotives. Thrill to the sights of Alco U30CGs and U28CGs, built exclusively for the Santa Fe, and the Fairbanks-Morse H12-44Ts at Dearborn Station in Chicago. All three had steam generators to heat passenger cars during switching operations. The highlights of the show are the EMD GP7M prototype used on the Santa Fe as #99, and the popular CF7s that were rebuilt from F3s and F7s by the Santa Fe in their own shops. A wide variety of Fairbanks Morse, Baldwin, Alco, and EMD locomotives are seen in passenger and freight service, as well as a rare shot of an early articulated railcar. Added line drawings and specifications of each featured locomotive make this an important visual reference and resource for modelers, hobbyists, historians, and enthusiasts alike. Packaged in a sturdy clamshell case.

Donner Pass DVD
Video Rails 1988 1563422255 NEW CONDITION DVD
Donner Pass, Southern Pacific's Sierra Crossing.
Donner Pass
the name evokes daunting obstacles with good reason. Steep grades and seven months a year of winter weather put a railroad s resources to the test. Yet the need to transport goods over the Sierras produces a nonstop parade of trains over this famous line, and that was especially true in 1988 when Video Rails captured incredible Southern Pacific action over Donner Pass.
Starting at the classification yards in Roseville, California, you ll follow Southern Pacific s trains up and over The Hill. SP s 6-axle SD40s, SD40T-2s, SD45s, and SD45T-2 tackle 138 miles of up to 2.4 percent grades. Up to 11 units are needed for the climb. The standard arrangement for these 10,000-ton trains is 4 by 6, with four engines leading and 6 mid-train helpers, but you ll also see long trains with six units leading, six mid-train helpers, and an end-of-train helper. Cabooses are also seen in use here. At Colfax, you ll see helpers being added to the front and rear of the trains. This is also a stopping point for Amtrak s twice-daily California Zephyr, several of which are seen with private cars trailing. You ll follow these trains to Alta, Blue Canyon, Emigrant Gap, Yuba Gap, Cisco, Norden and the Big Hole, a 2-mile long tunnel that runs directly under Donner Pass.
Special highlights of this show include rare films of the line s construction, footage of the trapped City of San Francisco Train 101 at Yuba Pass in 1952, snow fighting equipment with steam powered rotaries pushed by Cab Forwards and other steam power, and chilling views of 1980s railroading through winter blizzards. The scenery is spectacular and the railroading is as intense as it gets when Southern Pacific tackles Donner Pass!
DVD Special Feature: Chapter Menus provides instant access to program segments. Full-screen (4x3) Format; No region code; can be played in any NTSC DVD player worldwide. Packaged in Sturdy Vinyl Clamshell Case.

Donner Combo DVD
Released on DVD 2003 1563421321 NEW CONDITION DVD
Between Roseville, California and Sparks, Nevada lies one of the most difficult sustained climbs in American railroading, the Donner Pass Summit route. This 140-mile stretch of formerly Southern Pacific, now Union Pacific, double-tracked mainline routinely challenges trains with 2.3 percent grades on its 85-mile eastbound climb to the 7,000-foot elevation at Donner Summit. In Pentrex's Donner Combo DVD you can experience 3 hours of thrilling Donner action in these two dynamic shows.
Battle for Donner Pass shows the incredible story of Southern Pacific men and equipment that fought impossible odds to keep this historic mountain pass open through winters worst storms. Ride in the cabs of the equipment and meet the people who work with flangers and regulators, spreaders and bulldozers, rotary snow plows and more!
Across Donner Summit is hosted by noted railroad photographer and historian Richard Steinheimer. Heavy Southern Pacific trains continue to use the original route constructed by the Central Pacific railroad in the 1860's. Steep grades, sharp curves, and cruel weather face the trains on their way over the Sierra Nevada. Helper locomotives are required in both directions. Freight and passenger trains roll over Donner in bitter storms and as clear skies brighten the surrounding snow cover. DVD includes the option of watching the program with or without narration.

Santa Fe Freight Houses
0979900972
Santa Fe Freight Houses: Engineering Series Volume 3.
This 80-page, black & white, soft cover book is the third in a series featuring drawings, images, and reference material from the R.L. Crump Library.
Noted author Robert D. Walz provides a broad survey of freight houses throughout the Santa Fe system. Freight houses were key to the movement of less than car load freight (LCL). LCL is defined as freight in one car from more than one shipper or destined to more than one receiver." LCL shipments were not as important or as expensive to the shipper as express shipments that moved via the Railway Express Agency in passenger trains. They were, however, more expensive per hundredweight than carload shipments. This expense was due to the extra handling required of railroad employees.
This book will show some of the Santa Fe s freight houses using photos, drawings, and maps primarily from archives in the Crump Library. Information about the movement of LCL freight comes from Santa Fe System Circular 385, Merchandise Schedules and L.C.L. Freight Service revised to 1 November 1946.

Dusk on the Panhandle DVD
Cam-Tech Publishing NA NEW CONDITION DVD
The Last of Pennsylvania Railroad Steam between Columbus and Bradford, Ohio.
From color films by Jerry W. Fisher.
In 1955 the Pennsylvania Railroad suddenly laid up its steam locomotives. Jerry Fisher grew up along the Pennsylvania Railroad at Piqua, Ohio. His favorite locomotive, the PRR J1 2-10-4, was missing from the landscape. Word came in 1956 that some J1s were being withdrawn from storage and would be used for traffic west of Columbus. Jerry purchased a 16mm movie camera and headed out to capture those last days of steam in 1956 and 1957 and a few early diesel powered trains.
For almost a year he spent weekends along 83 miles of the PRR between Columbus, Ohio, and Bradford, Ohio, capturing the last days of steam on the PRR in western Ohio. This CD contains his historically significant scenes of the Pennsylvania railroad during the last days of steam, some early diesel powered trains and scenes of cabooses. The railroad is gone today, it did not survive Conrail.

Alaska Railroad Vol. 2 DVD
Pentrex 2007 1563422239 NEW CONDITION DVD
Where Trains Fly and Eagles Soar. The Seward and Whittier Subdivisions on the Alaska Railroad.
The Alaska Railroad series continues with a fascinating look at operations on the Seward and Whittier Subdivisions during the summer of 1994. We ll treat you to a 3-day tour of the lines between Anchorage, Whittier and Seward, trackage that runs past the incredibly scenic vistas of Turn again Arm and Kenai Fjords National Park. The route from Seward to Portage takes the trains over the crest of Kenai at 1,060 feet, up 3 percent grades, and through 5 tunnels!
Traffic on the Whittier and Seward Subs consists of Anchorage-to-Seward passenger trains; the Whittier Shuttle carrying passengers, cars, and trucks; unit coal trains; and freights that serve the rail barges. These are led by GM diesels including GP35s and GP38s, GP40s and GP49s, plus a few surprises such as an F7-B and a Budd RDC. You ll also see many cabooses at the ends of these trains.
The highlights of our show feature the Port of Whittier where the Trainmaster juggles 10 trains and 2 rail barges against 20-foot tides with only one GP30 switch engine, a passenger train made up of former SP bi-level coaches, rides through the tunnels aboard the Shuttle, a 6-unit lash-up of 5 GP49s and one GP40 leading a heavy coal train, maintenance-of-way equipment, and a special military move. But not to be overlooked is the astonishing beauty of red sunsets, towering snow-draped mountains, and sea green glaciers that are backdrops to the silhouettes of these trains. The Alaska Railroad serves a land of incredible beauty, a place where trains fly and eagles soar!

Alaska Railroad Vol. 3 DVD
Mind's I Productions 1994 1563422301 NEW CONDITION DVD
Giants in the Dark-Winter on the Alaska Railroad.
The third in Pentrex's 3-volume DVD series about the Alaska Railroad brings you a view of Alaskan railroading like no other, for it carries you along the rails in the dead of winter, when temperatures are minus 30 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit and you re lucky if you see five hours of daylight. Photographer Patrick Hunstiger set up his studio lights and cameras to capture this incredible action in 1994. Now, with this new DVD release from Pentrex, you can experience powerful diesels challenging the cold, snow, and darkness, guiding freight and passenger trains through the frozen frontiers of the Alaskan wilds.
Winter alters the way the Alaska Railroad does business. A busy summer week of up to 100 trains a week will drop to 25 during the winter. However, the spectacular drama of railroading in Alaska is undiminished. GP40-2s, GP49s, a GP30, F7-B, E8-B, and MP15 are seen spewing show from the rails, sliding through the darkness while snow flurries cover the cabs, and hauling their trains past ice clogged-bays and jagged white peaks. Approaching the Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood aboard the Ski Train is a magical sight for the mountain is lit for night skiing, but for the most part what you ll see is the bitter cold, the heavy storms, and the dangers facing the men and equipment in a land of perpetual darkness. It s an extraordinary insight into a type of railroading that few dare to face.

Travel back in time to southern West Virginia, deep in the heart of Appalachia, to experience the busy double tracked stretch of Norfolk Southern mainline called the Pocahontas District. It s the mid 1990s and you re touring the Pokey from Williamson to Bluefield to watch heavy coal trains labor upgrade and speeding time-freights rush across the system.
The rugged terrain of this mountainous district has always been a challenge to the railroad. Numerous bridges carrying the tracks back and forth across the rivers are interspersed with eighteen tunnels that bore through the ridges along this line. The area s steep grades bring most trains down to a crawl and helper engines are required on almost all eastbound trains. The long climb up to Elkhorn Tunnel is a steady 1.4 percent grade.
Coal is king in these parts. You ll visit a coal mine where strings of hoppers are being topped off with this important commodity. Mine runs with cabooses are seen, as well as fleets of heavy mainline coal drags pulled by NS s newest locomotives. The Pokey is a railroading adventure where the scenery is spectacular and the obstacles are met with brute horsepower and ingenuity!

VOLUME 1: MO-PAC DELIVERS. Produced by Missouri Pacific in 1975. Mo-Pac demonstrates its many strengths to prospective customers in this rare promotional film. See welded rail installation, maintenance of way equipment, automated wheel shops and hump yards, dispatch center, specialized freight cars, unit trains, modern diesel locomotives, and more! (25 minutes).
PORTRAIT OF A RAILROAD. Burlington Northern, 1973. BN moved 100,000 cars on 126,000 miles of rail to transport food, fuel, and goods to American markets on a scale only the railroad could handle. This detailed and instructive film in the Safe Railroading Series shows employees the right and wrong ways to handle switches and hand-brakes. Featured equipment includes ball, lever, high stand, dual control, and spring switches; plus wheel and lever hand brakes. (22 minutes).
TLC (Tender Loving Care) CN Rail, 1978. Transporting newsprint requires special care and attention; otherwise it's easily damaged and expensive to replace, as Canadian National rail workers learn in this informative program. You'll see the skills needed to load, route, and deliver this valuable commodity just in time. (22 minutes)
VOLUME 2: THE FREIGHT GOES THROUGH! Association of American Railroads, 1952. Yard workers get a good look at damage prevention techniques and the effects that temperature and load have on coupling and rolling speeds. Both steam and diesel engines are featured in this AAR training film. (18 minutes).
THE RIGHT TO COMPETE, AAR, 1956. The importance of revising Federal regulations to permit fair competition among different transportation modes is promoted in this 1950s-vintage AAR film. Featured railroads include Southern Pacific, Missouri Pacific, the Pennsy, New York Central, B&O, Santa Fe, Nickel Plate, Seaboard Air Line, and more. (14 minutes).
NEW DIRECTIONS IN MODERN RAILROADING, AAR, 1966. The AAR demonstrates how new developments are bringing traffic back to the rails. See welded rail, tunnel expansion, electronic communications, special-purpose freight cars, just-in-time delivery, piggyback and containers, grain and coal unit trains, and passenger transportation on the GN, UP, SP, PRR, SOU, NP, ATSF, NYC, C&NW, ACL, and others. Narrated by Chet Huntley. (28 minutes).

Amtrak's Northeast Corridor Combo DVD
Pentrex 2005 1563421763 NEW CONDITION DVD
The Northeast Corridor was a modern commuter raceway when Pentrex set out to capture this busy line in 1992. New York City to Philadelphia
Focusing on this electrified heavily-trafficked portion of the line, our program brings you a fascinating mix of old and new technologies. Yet manned block towers dating back to the turn of the century can still be found in use on the line. Experience over 150 Amtrak and commuter trains in action as you visit Penn Station, Hudson Tower, Newark, Trenton, Princeton Junction, and Zoo Interlocking and the venerable A and Zoo towers on your trek from New York City to Philadelphia. At the Throttle Cab Ride Vol. 1 DVD
Pentrex 2008 1563422506 NEW CONDITION DVD
At the Throttle Cab Ride Vol. 1 (DVD). The San Bernardino Subdivision Los Angeles to San Bernardino on the BNSF.
With the camera secured to the front of an eastbound stack train and the scenic landscapes of the BNSF San Bernardino Subdivision stretching before you, you re at the throttle and about to experience a train ride like no other! In this show, you ll get a truly unique, railroader s perspective of the 65 miles between Hobart Yard in Los Angeles and the city of San Bernardino. This line supports Amtrak, Metrolink, and heavy BNSF freight action, and you ll see plenty of this as you ride the rails.
Beginning with an early departure on a beautiful spring day in 2008, you ll leave Hobart Yard, cautiously observing the 10-mile per hour speed limit until the entire train is on the mainline and the engineer can bring the heavy train up to speed. Running southeast past Pico Rivera, Los Nietos Junction, and La Mirada to Fullerton, you ll get to observe the routing procedures that support the Amtrak Pacific Surfliners, westbound freights, and Metrolink commuter trains that compete for track space. Moving east past the Fullerton Station, you ll slip past one of three remaining Santa Fe cantilever signals and head toward the horseshoe bend in Santa Ana Canyon. At West Riverside, UP joins the BNSF rails for the trip over Cajon Pass. By the time you reach the San Bernardino Station, enough daylight remains to give you a start onto the Cajon Sub to Devore. This has been no conventional cab ride; this has been an unobstructed view of the line that few people will ever experience! Welcome to Volume 1 of At the Throttle!

At the Throttle Cab Ride Vol. 3 (DVD): Train Meets
Welcome to Pentrex's Volume 3 of At the Throttle. With our camera mounted on the lead engine of a BNSF train, we ll take to the rails to bring you a spectacular and unique perspective of railroading like no other! Volume 3 is dedicated to train meets, the exciting encounter of two opposing trains traveling on parallel tracks. You ll travel throughout Southern California to experience meets with freight, commuter, and passenger trains at a variety of locations, including the Alameda Corridor and the BNSF s San Bernardino and Cajon Subdivisions.
This is no conventional cab ride. As you travel the rails, you ll view meets from many intriguing angles. Our camera is sometimes mounted at the wheel, on the coupler, at the front of the cab, even on top of the engine! These images were not only shot during daylight; there are many fascinating night scenes as well. You ll see meets with Union Pacific, KCS, BNSF trains and Amtrak s Southwest Chief and Pacific Surfliner, plus a drag race on the climb to Summit. At the Throttle Cab Ride Vol. 4 DVD
Pentrex 2009 1563422565 NEW CONDITION DVD
At the Throttle Cab Ride Vol. 4 (DVD): The Alameda Corridor.
Hop on board! We ve got a first class ticket for you to ride a BNSF doublestack train on the Alameda Corridor! From Hobart Yard in Los Angeles to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and back again, including Terminal Island and Pier 400, you re about to witness a line that few are privileged to see. So get ready. You re about to experience the Alameda Corridor!
The congestion generated by heavy BNSF and UP trains moving freight in and out of the ports led to construction of a 20-mile long consolidated route linking the railroads container facilities near Los Angeles to the harbor area. The central feature of the Corridor is the Trench, a 33-foot deep, 50-foot wide, 10-mile long cut that carries trains below grade crossings. With an average close to 70 trains a day, the Corridor is a busy place, as you ll see on three separate outings.
Your first trip begins near Eastern Avenue on a cool, overcast October morning in 2007. After passing Hobart Tower, you enter the Trench at 25th Street, return to ground level 10 miles later in Compton, ending your trip at Delores Yard. Your second trip takes you from Watson Yard to Terminal Island where your consist will traverse a giant balloon track to keep your lead unit on the point before coupling to a waiting train. For the third trip, you ll depart from Pier 400 for the return trip back through the Trench. This time the camera is mounted on the second unit to give you a different perspective. The highlights of your trips include appearances by Pacific Harbor Line locomotives, a passing UP stack train in the corridor, and more. This is a railroading adventure like no other!

Baltimore & Ohio Odyssey Vol. 1 1954-1964 DVD
Pentrex 2000 156342083X NEW CONDITION DVD
Linking 13 Great States with the Nation-that was the slogan of the B&O Railroad. Step back to the 1950s and 1960s to see what made the Baltimore & Ohio one of the all-time great railroads.
The action takes place in Ohio and Pennsylvania, starting in 1954 when steam was king. Articulated locomotives, Mikes, Big Sixes, and many other types of steam power roll past the camera. You'll catch the action at the Lorain ore dock where steam trains unload ships laden with iron ore and also spend time watching the steam switchers at Rossford Yard in Toledo. Then you'll get a look at E and F-units and Geeps in classic B&O paint schemes.
The Cincinnatian, which ran from Detroit to Toledo on NYC track and to Cincinnati on the B&O line, is extensively covered. You'll see it under steam and on many runbys headed by diesels. Other passenger trains appear, including the Shenandoah and Nickel Plate's Westerner. Volume 1 of B&O Odyssey, which covers the years 1954 to 1964, is the first in a multi-volume series based on the works of noted railroad photographer Emery Gulash.

Columbia River Gorge Vol. 2: Union Pacific DVD
Pentrex 2007 1563422174 NEW CONDITION DVD
Union Pacific's Portland Subdivision.
Climbing gently from the tidewater ports near Portland, Oregon is the Columbia River Gorge a wide, flat-water river passage that provides access to the inland agricultural regions of Washington and Oregon and divides the two states along most of their border. It is a spot of unparalleled beauty that hosts two railroad lines: BNSF to the north and Union Pacific along the southern shore.
In Columbia River Gorge Volume I: BNSF s Fallbridge Subdivision, Pentrex explored the BNSF side of the Gorge, heading east from Vancouver, Washington to the arid desert mountains near the John Day Dam. Now, in Volume 2, we jump across the river to head back west toward Portland following Union Pacific s Portland Subdivision. We ll visit many of the region s best railfanning spots, such as Biggs, Celilo Park, The Dalles, Memaloose State Park, Mosier, and Hood River with the Mount Hood Scenic Railroad. We ll travel through the Viento State Park area to Wyeth, Cascade Locks, Bonneville Dam, and the spectacular Multnomah Falls. At Troutdale, the mainline splits into two routes to Portland and we ll visit the junction there before heading into the city.
The trains you ll see include Canpotex unit potash trains, Spokane International mixed freights, container, grain, trailer, and stack trains, and Amtrak s Pioneer. Motive power varies from SD40-2s to SD60Ms, SD70Ms, leased SD90MACs, Dash 40-CW, AC4400-CW, GE AC6000, Geeps, and more. CP, BNSF, and C&NW power also make appearances. These images were captured from the mid 1990s to the early 2000s, giving you a chance to see some of the older and newest power in use. CP Five and CP Potter, New Jersey; Bear Mountain, Selkirk Yard, State Line Tunnel, Syracuse, Lyons, Buffalo, and Binghamton, New York; Allentown, Reading, Rockville Bridge, Horse Shoe Curve, Conpit Jct., and Rochester Tower, Pennsylvania; and Palmer, Massachusetts.
Other railroads are spotted at these sites as well as Conrail, including New York, Susquehanna & Western; Central Vermont; CP Rail; and Amtrak. Among the wide variety of locomotives spotted are LMS and GATX lease units, Canadian National power, Amtrak GP40-TC, and the rare General Electric C32-8 (Conrail bought the only ten units of this model ever built).
Informative narration identifies all the trains by their symbols and gives you insights into the special characteristics that make each hot spot so exciting to watch. The beautiful photography and intense railroading action will keep you spellbound!

Conrail Hot Spots West DVD
Pentrex 1996 1563421933 NEW CONDITION DVD
Railroading hot spots are favorite gathering places where railfans can expect to see numerous trains in a short amount of time. Following upon the success of Conrail Hot Spots East, which covered the eastern half of the extensive Conrail system, Pentrex set out to record many of the revered hot spots on the western half of the system in the states of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.
The locations visited in Ohio include Ashtabula, Alliance, Crestline, the Cleveland Drawbridge, Berea Tower, Galion, Marion, Port Clinton, Toledo, and Ridgeway. Indiana sites include Elkhart, South Bend, Porter, Hammond, Muncie, and Terre Haute and in Illinois we view the action at St. Elmo and Effingham. All Conrail trains are identified by their symbols indicating departure cities and destinations. Big Blue puts on an impressive show for us with its fleet of power that was relatively new for 1996, such as SD60s and C40s. Locomotives from other railroads are seen on Conrail trains as run-through power. In addition, trains belonging to CSX, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific, Illinois Central, and Grand Trunk Western are seen at many of the important junctions.
Released originally in 1996, this presentation is now available with the enhanced viewing clarity and ease that DVD can offer. Join Pentrex for an exciting tour of railroading along Conrail Hot Spots West!

CSX Mountain Sub DVD
Pentrex 2001 156342102X NEW CONDITION DVD
Up, Over, Around & Through!
Powerful diesels pull hard on strings of loaded coal hoppers, lifting them up steep mountain grades; manned helpers assist on the rear. Smoke pours from their stacks as mighty diesels lug heavy tonnage through twisting curves, past color position light signals. The daily routine is almost as timeless as the mountains themselves. Merchandise freights Q317 and Q316 also make daily appearances across the mountainous terrain of West Virginia and Maryland. The battle to keep traffic flowing over Newburg, Cheat, Cranberry, and Seventeen Mile-legendary grades of Baltimore & Ohio's famous Mountain Sub-is what this show is all about.
Starting in Grafton, West Virginia we follow CSX action east across the Alleghenies to Altamont, Maryland. From the tower at West Keyser we track westbound trains working up Seventeen Mile grade. The struggle is not just uphill; easing heavy tonnage down these dangerous slopes is even more demanding. Shot over three seasons, this program is rich with magnificent fall colors, gorgeous winter scenes with deep snow, and the intense greens of spring. The Appalachian wonderland comes to life as trains follow twisting rails up, over, around, and through CSX's enduring Mountain Sub.
DVD Special Features: Two stereo soundtracks, one with the natural train sounds, the other with narration added. The viewer can switch the narration on or off at any time. Chapter Menu provides instant access to program segments. Full-screen (4x3) Format. No region code; can be played in any NTSC DVD player worldwide. Packaged in Sturdy Vinyl Clamshell Case.

CSX Southern West Virginia Coal DVD
Pentrex 1994 1563422670 NEW CONDITION DVD
CSX Southern West Virginia Coal: The Logan, the Big River, and the Big Coal Subdivisions
In 1994, Pentrex went on a tour of discovery along CSX branchlines in the coalfields of West Virginia to show you how coal was brought down out of the hollows and moved out to world markets. The beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, the power of the railroad, and the importance of the task are just as riveting today as they were then. Pentrex is proud to bring you the story of Southern West Virginia Coal!
Traveling on the Logan, the Big River, and the Big Coal Subdivisions, as well as their numerous connecting subs, you ll see hard working diesels pull strings of hoppers up stiff grades and twisting branchlines where the cars will be flood-loaded at the mines. Cabooses are still utilized on some trains and rear-end pushers can be seen on others. Following the loaded trains out of the coalfields, you ll visit a rail-to-river transfer facility where a rotary dumper quickly unloads the black diamonds into barges. An interview with Tim Hensley, CSX Resident Vice-President for West Virginia, provides intriguing insight. Mr. Hensley was once a locomotive engineer and he reflects on his personal experience and the significance of these coal operations to the railroad and the state.
Long, heavy trains grinding through curve after curve, powering through daunting grades, loaded with the raw ore that will feed a hungry nation; that s what you ll find here. The action never ceases for CSX as it meets the challenge of the coalfields of Southern West Virginia!
DVD Special Feature: Chapter Menus provides instant access to program segments. Presented in Standard Definition 4x3 Format, No region code; can be played in NTSC DVD players worldwide. Packaged in Sturdy Vinyl Clamshell Case.

Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Freight Train DVD
Pentrex 1990 1563422034 NEW CONDITION DVD
Here is your ticket to relive the days of Rio Grande narrow gauge freight service aboard the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.
In September 1990, the San Juan Express, a privately sponsored photographer s freight train, ran on an unusual 2-day excursion that covered the entire line from Chama, New Mexico to Antonito, Colorado. Led by Baldwin-built 2-8-2 Mikado locomotive #488, the train with its vintage freight equipment tackled the four percent grade from Chama to Cumbres Pass at an elevation of 10,015-feet and then continued east to Antonito. Stops were scheduled to allow photographers ample opportunity to capture fantastic run-bys at the most scenic spots, with plenty of smoke, whistles, and steam.
Excellent weather conditions and the wide variety of scenery along the way added to the excitement of the trip. Steep mountain curves, rolling upland meadows, and incredible Rocky Mountain vistas made fantastic settings against which the historic train performed. This 64-mile long remnant of the once-flourishing Rio Grande Narrow Gauge network is now the longest 3-foot gauge railroad in America and one of the country s most popular train rides. It s every bit as exciting today as it was when this program was originally released in 1990. Join Pentrex as we step back in time to savor once more the thrill of narrow gauge steam freight in the Rockies!
DVD Special Feature: Chapter Menu provides instant access to program segments. Full-screen (4x3) Format. No region code; can be played in any NTSC DVD player worldwide. Packaged in Sturdy Vinyl Clamshell Case.

Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Passenger Train DVD
Pentrex 1991 1563422433 NEW CONDITION DVD
Join Pentrex for an exciting ride on the longest and highest narrow gauge railroad in North America, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. This remnant of the once flourishing Rio Grande narrow gauge network runs from Chama, New Mexico to Antonito, Colorado. The spectacular vistas of the San Juan Mountains and the Upper Rio Chama Valley flank the rails of this serpentine route as it switches back and forth across the two state lines.
Mikado steam locomotives built in the mid 1920s power the vintage equipment for these passenger trains. Daily, during summer months, they struggle up the four percent grade to the 10,015-foot summit of Cumbres Pass. You ll ride in the cab and witness the expertise of the engineer and fireman who control these locomotives as they blast upgrade. Numerous run-bys highlight the power and beauty of a C&TS doubleheader at many scenic spots along the 64-mile line.

Daylight Freedom Special DVD
Pentrex 2002 1563421135 NEW CONDITION DVD
In March 2002, Daylight 4449 returned to the rails for the Columbia-Deschutes Special, a 2-day excursion that took the mighty steamer through the scenic wonderlands of the Columbia River Gorge and the Deschutes River Canyon. Making the trip even more remarkable was the Daylight's patriotic paint scheme: the elegant steamer was repainted for this trip in the same glorious red, white and blue colors she wore during her American Freedom Train tours of 1975-1976.
The Columbia River Gorge and Deschutes Canyon provided outstanding settings for the magnificent locomotive and her Freedom Train colors. The Deschutes River Canyon is an inaccessible and visually stunning site where canyon walls rise 2,200 feet up from the tracks. 4449 looked gorgeous in her revisited colors, pulling former Amtrak Heritage Fleet and Northwest Rail Museum Daylight cars, unassisted by diesel helpers! Leaving Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington, the Daylight traveled the north bank of the Columbia River for 110 miles. Then, turning south, she continued to Bend, demonstrating her awesome power. Highlights include fantastic pacing sequences, high bridge crossings, and an added segment showing the Daylight in all her different paint schemes!
DVD Special Features: Bonus footage: The 1976 Interurban Press film The American Freedom Train (25 minutes) is included on the same DVD! Two stereo soundtracks, one with the natural train sounds, the other with narration added. The viewer can switch the narration on or off at any time. (This feature is not available on the bonus film.) Chapter Menu provides instant access to program segments. No region code; can be played in any NTSC DVD player worldwide. Full-screen (4x3) Format. Denver & Rio Grande Western DVD
Pentrex 1986 1563421518 NEW CONDITION DVD
The Denver & Rio Grande Western means rugged, spectacular mountain railroading, heavy freight hauling, and terrific action shots. That was especially true in 1986 when this show was originally filmed. At that time, the railroad was still an independent entity and most of its trains were pulled by pure sets of Rio Grande power, many with cabooses. Units from Burlington Northern, Southern Pacific, and Missouri Pacific could also be seen with run-through trains. This was pre-merger time, a great time to tour the D&RGW.
This DVD covers the entire Denver to Salt Lake City mainline. Savor the thrill of a cab ride up the Front Range to Moffat Tunnel. Travel to Winter Park to see the Ski Train with its heavyweight coaches. Watch Rio Grande, Santa Fe, and Burlington Northern trains share operations on the Joint Line between Denver and Pueblo. Climb the awesome slopes of Tennessee Pass to the 10,000-foot summit; then descend into the Royal Gorge with its sheer rock walls. Filmed throughout the four seasons of the year, this show brings you the beauty of the Rio Grande terrain and all its nonstop action, including the Rio Grande s business cars, Amtrak, and plenty of freights. It s a fantastic trip!
DVD Special Features: Bonus footage: A 23-minute cab ride through the Royal Gorge. This footage has never before been released! Two Hi-Fi soundtracks, one with the natural train sounds, the other with narration added. The viewer can switch the narration on or off at any time. Above 3751 to San Diego DVD
Pentrex 2008 1563422476 NEW CONDITION DVD
On June 1, 2008, AT&SF 3751 made its first trip from Los Angeles to San Diego in 55 years and Pentrex was on the spot with multiple camera crews using the latest in high-tech equipment to bring you the best possible coverage of this exciting event. Using our famous aerial photography as well as trackside and onboard cameras, we were able to capture the train from all angles and we do mean all! We were able to get some truly incredible shots! The powerful 4-8-4 Northern never looked better as she headed south along the beautiful Southern California coast.
The skies were clear and sunny as the 3751 departed Los Angeles at the head of its 10-car train. The Amtrak unit behind the 3751 was placed in reverse mode for the turn-around in San Diego and to provide head end power for the cars. Otherwise, the special was pulled entirely by steam. Our camera crews had the train well covered as it followed the west side of the Los Angeles River, past Amtrak s Redondo Yard, and headed east to Fullerton and then to San Juan Capistrano. A photo run-by for passengers took place at the Poinsettia Station where the thirsty Baldwin stopped to be watered and serviced before proceeding to San Diego. Leaving the shores of the Pacific Ocean, the oil-burning 81-year old steamer filled the canyons with a throaty exhaust as it tackled the 2.2 percent grades of Miramar Hill. In a scene reminiscent of the glory days of steam, the 3751 pulled into San Diego s classic Mission Revival style station where fans of all ages were waiting to greet the train.
Our special coverage of this historic excursion also includes some rare in-cab footage of the 3751. There s nothing quite so thrilling as the sights and sounds of big steam on the rails again and Pentrex has captured all that excitement for you in Above 3751 to San Diego!
DVD Special Feature: Chapter Menus provides instant access to program segments. Shot in High Definition and Widescreen (16x9) Format. No region code; can be played in NTSC DVD players worldwide. Packaged in Sturdy Vinyl Clamshell Case.

Baltimore & Ohio Odyssey Set Vols. 1 & 2 (DVD set)
Pentrex 2000 1563420929 NEW CONDITION DVD
Pentrex, DVD, 60 min., chapter menu, option to listen with or without narration.
Volume 2 of B&O Odyssey, which covers the years 1965 to 1968, is the second in a multi-volume series based on the works of noted railroad photographer Emery Gulash. The odyssey resumes in Michigan, shortly after the B&O had merged with the C&O. Motive power and rolling stock of both roads are seen intermingled. Passenger trains between Detroit and Toledo are seen including the Cincinnatian plus the towers of Wayne Junction, Romulus and Carleton. Moving east Connellsville, PA and Brunswick, MD are visited where heavy freight action is happening. Motive power includes F-units and GP30s. At Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, perhaps the most scenic spot on the B&O, passenger and freight trains are seen making their daily runs. Coverage continues on to Hancock, MD; Ohio, Pennsylvania and back to Michigan where lots more passenger action is observed.

Pentrex 2005 1563421674 NEW CONDITION DVD

Train Meets: Double the Action! Vol. 1 DVD
Lamanda Park Productions 2002 1563421208 NEW CONDITION DVD
Double The Action! We all feel pretty lucky when we're able to photograph two trains meeting each other. Sometimes it's the result of careful planning, but more often it's just plain luck. Over two years went into the filming of Train Meets-Double The Action, and the results are simply spectacular! Every scene gives you two trains meeting or passing each other.
All the sites shown here are located in Southern California. The majority are on Cajon Pass, a dynamite setting for exciting train action. You'll see side-by-side running as the trains battle the grades of Cajon, always a thrilling sight. Each locale is identified by on-screen graphics, but not until you've had a chance to see if you can figure out the exact location first! There's a huge variety of motive power and equipment to be seen. BNSF locomotives in Heritage II colors are plentiful. You'll also see motive power in various paint schemes from Union Pacific (including the new UP design with the American flag proudly waving), Southern Pacific, Santa Fe, Burlington Northern, Cotton Belt, CSX, and others. Doublestacks, piggybacks, auto racks, mixed freight, and some passenger trains are shown. The trains do the talking in this show, as there is minimal narration to interfere with the throaty growls of hardworking engines or squealing flanges. On-screen graphics keep you well informed about the locations you see.
All four seasons of the year are represented, even winter scenes showing snow on Cajon. With the camera poised to catch the movements from interesting angles and meets galore, this is one show every railfan should see!

Trains Along the Upper Mississippi Vol. 1 DVD
Pentrex 1999 1563422492 NEW CONDITION DVD
Trains Along the Upper Mississippi Vol. 1 (DVD) Canadian Pacific s River Subdivision.
Flanking the western shore of the upper Mississippi River runs Canadian Pacific s River Subdivision, a busy main line that supports a nonstop flow of traffic. Pentrex traveled the line in 1999, through hot summer days and cold winter chill to bring you the excitement of railroading in this scenic territory. Beginning at River Junction, just west of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, we follow the line to St. Paul, Minnesota. As much of the subdivision hugs the mighty Mississippi, we spot the trains against backdrops of wooded bluffs and sometimes blue, sometimes frozen waters.
Milwaukee Road and Soo Line operated this route prior to Canadian Pacific. You ll see motive power and varied paint schemes from all three appearing frequently, such as Milwaukee Road GP40s, Soo Line SD60s, and Canadian Pacific s AC4400s. Highlights include a candy apple red Soo Line SD40-2 and a Canadian Pacific SD40-2F Red Barn wearing the dual flag paint scheme, not to mention plenty of Soo Line cabooses. I&MRL trains, with trackage rights to St. Paul, also polish these rails. The I&MRL sports some of the older power, including SD9s, SD45s, and SD35s. Plus, Amtrak s Empire Builder uses this route to and from Chicago. Plenty of trains, gorgeous scenery, great variety-that s railroading on Canadian Pacific s River Subdivision!

Tribute to Tennessee Pass DVD
Pentrex 1997 1563422360 NEW CONDITION DVD
Esteemed for its scenic beauty and respected for the difficulty of its terrain, Tennessee Pass has been a magnet, drawing railfans and photographers to Colorado s mountains for years. When word spread that Union Pacific was closing the pass in 1997, interest climbed to an all-time high. Along with visitors from throughout the world, Pentrex traveled to this revered line to document its final months of operation. Our efforts were rewarded with a high volume of movements and an outstanding mix of trains.
The grit of heavy-haul railroading is an awesome sight. Coal trains slug it out on the 3 percent grade leading to the 10,000-foot summit. Colorado s highest snow-capped mountains loom over toiling freights. Squealing flanges echo off canyon walls as trains grind through serpentine curves, and past the raging waters of the Arkansas River. Helper engines are viewed assisting trains over the mountain. Up to nine of UP s newest AC-powered giants are needed to lug tonnage across the pass. It s this type of intense action and spectacular scenery that made the line so idolized. Join with us as we pay tribute to Union Pacific s Tennessee Pass Subdivision!

Union Pacific 844 Western Heritage Tour DVD
Pentrex 2009 1563422638 NEW CONDITION DVD
Union Pacific 844 Western Heritage Tour
In April 2009, Union Pacific sent its goodwill ambassador, steam locomotive 844, on a 32-day excursion to help celebrate several Western railroading events. Leading its handsome, matched set of vintage passenger cars, the venerable 4-8-4 powered its train over Donner Pass on the westbound leg of its Western Heritage Tour from Cheyenne, Wyoming to California s Bay Area, and through the Feather River Canyon on the eastbound trek home, encountering both sparkling blue skies and snow storms during its journey. Pentrex joined the train in Nevada to bring you the excitement of both mountain crossings as the train made its way to the City of Roseville Centennial and the Western Pacific Centennial at Portola.
Gorgeous weather just outside Elko, Nevada, turns into a spring snowstorm as the train works its way toward Donner Pass. You ll see incredible images of steam clouds billowing against falling snow. While at Elko, you ll spot a WP GP-9 on display. After the big Northern is serviced at Winnemucca, it heads out to Sparks where Heritage Units 1996 and 1983 will join it for the trip over Donner. An exciting pacing sequence along Highway 80 and a majestic shot of the train crossing Donner highlight the run to Roseville. Included among the treats in store for you on the return trip to Portola and through the Feather River Canyon are images captured at Milepost 191.6, Oroville, the horseshoe curve at James, Portola, and more. Lots of traffic covers these rails so you ll also see UP freights, SW1200 switching on the Quincy Railroad, a rail grinder, a westbound BNSF freight coming off the Highline at Keddie Wye, and a stack train at Williams Loop. But the star of this show is UP 844, the oldest steam locomotive in continual service, a powerhouse testament to the glory days of steam, and the pride of the Union Pacific as it leads the UP 844 Western Heritage Tour!

Triple Track Cajon DVD
Pentrex 2009 1563422573 NEW CONDITION DVD
California s Cajon Pass has long been a favorite destination for countless railfans from around the world. The first line was built by Santa Fe in 1885 and years later the Southern Pacific constructed its own line through the pass. Today, Cajon is busier than ever with more traffic than the two lines can support. So, after several years of careful planning, BNSF broke ground in 2007 for a third main track linking the 15.9 miles between Keenbrook and Summit.
Pentrex brings you the story of this third track construction from beginning to end. We ll take you back to the start of the project and show you the process of cutting new slopes and embankments; moving millions of cubic yards of earthwork and rocks, building culverts and retaining walls, eliminating two tunnels, creating five new bridges, and track laying. It was a massive undertaking, as you ll see during the first portion of our show.
Then we treat you to nonstop action on today s triple-tracked Cajon, traveling from Verdemont to Summit with great before and after footage. A heavy winter storm gave us the opportunity to bring you rare, fantastic snow scenes. As a special treat, we ve included Bonus Footage featuring a cab ride from Blue Cut to Summit. If you thought seeing dual movements on two tracks was a thrill, wait until you see the screen filled with the excitement of three trains operating simultaneously on three tracks! Triple Track Cajon delivers the kind of railroading adventure that you will enjoy time and again!

Union Pacific Turbines of the Wasatch DVD
Video Rails 1992 156342228X NEW CONDITION DVD
In the decade they were operated, Union Pacific s 8500-series Gas Turbine Electric Locomotives earned two nicknames: UP dubbed them the Super Fleet for obvious reasons as they were the largest, most powerful locomotives ever employed by the railroad. More often the Turbines were referred to as Big Blows due to the deafening roar of their engines. Thirty of these GE-built giants were delivered to the UP between 1958 and 1961. Used primarily between Ogden, Utah and Green River, Wyoming, where the tough grades of the Wasatch Mountains required UP s sturdiest power, these monsters could log up to 10,000 miles a month hauling heavy mixed freight and coal trains. The 8500 series were permanently coupled six-axle units running on C-C trucks, and their prime mover was the most powerful ever used in a locomotive. The operating weight for the A and B units combined was close to 850,000 pounds, yet they could attain speeds of up to 70 mph!
Video Rails take you back to the 1960s with dramatic footage of UP s Turbines at work. First and second generation Turbines are briefly introduced and then the real action begins at the Ogden and Riverdale Yards where you ll see them being serviced, watered, sanded, and fueled. You ll follow an assortment of trains past Weber Canyon, Uintah, Peterson, Morgan (where you ll see fantastic pacing sequences), Devil s Slide, Henefer, Echo Canyon, Castle Rock, and Wasatch and be treated to thrilling scenes along this scenic route before they reach their eastern boundary at Green River.
The highly corrosive Bunker C fuel that powered the Turbines led to higher than anticipated maintenance costs and with the rising price of fuel oil at the end of the 1960s, the Turbines became too expensive to operate. The entire fleet was traded, sold, or scrapped by 1970. Not one operating unit remains. Yet you can still enjoy the thunder of these legendary powerhouses in this exciting presentation!

Here is the whole turbine story, from rare footage of an early steam turbine experiment in 1938 to the first gas turbine demonstrator in 1948. UP put 55 production units into service, the largest rated at 8,500 horsepower each the most powerful locomotives ever built! Union Pacific's Triple Track Main DVD
Pentrex 2000 1563420775 NEW CONDITION DVD
The Kearney Sub. Travel with Pentrex to the busiest freight mainline in North America. Union Pacific s Kearney Subdivision lies in the heart of central Nebraska. The 110-mile portion from North Platte to Gibbon Junction can see an average of 100 trains a day. In 1999, Union Pacific completed construction of a third main track to ease the congestion. Pentrex cameras captured some awesome railroading action here, including many meets and passes. This is Class One railroading at its best!
Many different types of trains can be seen rolling across the sand hills and between farm fields. We take some extra time to view trains rounding Buttermilk Curve, which is the best spot for watching trains on the line. Coal shipments are a big reason for the increase in traffic on the Kearney Sub. But with the world s largest classification yard at the west end of the line in North Platte, many other freights traverse the triple track main as well. Ninety-two different trains are captured running along the triple track with all kinds of motive power utilized, including distributed power coal trains. Pre-merger power can also be seen, including C&NW, Southern Pacific, and Rio Grande! You won't want to miss this show!

Virginian & Ohio: Afton Division Finale DVD
Pentrex 2001 156342097X NEW CONDITION DVD
One of the most famous model railroads-the Afton Division of Allen McClelland's Virginian and Ohio-is now gone. Before this layout was dismantled, Allen invited Pentrex to videotape the last days of its existence.
Using special lenses and real prototypes' sound effects, we transport you into the amazing lifelike world of the V&O for an absolutely incredible viewing experience. Railfanning the line as if it were a real railroad we travel to scenic locations to catch the action during a typical day on this Appalachian coal hauler. Heavy trains with rear end helpers slug it out on mountain grades. A local freight stops to switch a coal mine. Perishable freights, junk freights, foreign power, and Amtrak are seen from the best photo op locales. The V&O is operated realistically, complete with commercial, geographical and logistical concerns. Allen McClelland describes how he created this beyond the basement approach to model railroading and takes us on a tour over part of the road many have never viewed. You'll also meet dedicated crew members, including dispatcher Brad McClelland who demonstrates the lines CTC panel. The realism that made the V&O so special has been uniquely captured in one of the best model railroad shows ever produced!
