In 1958 the Southern Pacific abandoned its Black Widow freight livery and colorful Daylight passenger livery in favor of a more economical paint scheme of Lark gray and scarlet for all power. Coinciding within a few months of the image change was the end of the first generation of dieseldom, even though that particular phrase had not yet been coined. The first diesels to also be delivered in the new livery were also SP's first low-nose hood units. The book picks up the story of SP's diesel power where Southern Pacific in Color Volume 2 left off. Retail $ 59.95.
