Title: Santa Fe's Eastern Oklahoma Railway - Book 1: The Stillwater District
Seller ID: JC100
This is the history of Santa Fe's branchline from Guthrie, Oklahoma, on the railway's Wichita to Ft. Worth mainline, through Stillwater and on to Pawnee, Oklahoma along the Cimarron River. Beginning with the Oklahoma Land Rush and continuing with the construction of the line the author with the aid of many early photographs covers the reasons why the line was built. Then the history of the line over the years is covered in the middle chapters. The end of the line with it's dismantling in 1959 and what little remains today is covered in later chapters. It was the often tranquil but also often raging Cimarron River which ended the economic life of this railroad. Many early black and white pictures, aerial photos and maps and timetables round out the presentation. This book does not cover the later diesel locomotive era on the line, but heavily presents the early steam years when the line was new. Retail $49.95.
