Santa Fe's Early Diesel Daze 1935-1953

Author Name: John B. McCall

Title: Santa Fe's Early Diesel Daze 1935-1953

Seller ID: KAC102

This is the story of first generation Diesel power on the Santa Fe Railway and the process by which they brought about the honorable retirement of the steam locomotive. Early Diesel Daze continues the story begun with The Doodlebugs. The next step, after delivery of the ultimate doodlebug M.190 in 1932, was diesel-powered locomotives capable of heavy main-line service. This book tells the story of how the Santa Fe met this challenge...the process of dieselization of a major railroad between 1935 and 1953. The technology, equipment, operations, economics and personnel are combined to spell out the 'how', as well as 'why', of dieselization and the fundamental changes this brought about in the nature of railroad transportation. Photographic illustration and occasional engineering diagrams are included as a necessary part of the story. Published in 1980 this book is a must have reference for the Santa Fe fan. This book is out-of-print and Golden Spike has purchased the remaining Kachina Press inventory.
