The Rock Island's Western Division, when created, extended from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Colorado Springs and Denver, Colorado on the front range of the Rocky Mountains. The Western Division was a renaming of the Nebraska-Colorado Division which resulted from the merging of the Nebraska and Colorado Divisions. The Rock Island served its Colorado Line passengers with two time honored pairs of trains, the Colorado Express, trains 5 and 6, and the flagship Rocky Mountain Limited, and its successor the Rocky Mountain Rocket, trains 7 and 8. All of the passenger trains on this route are fully detailed and illustrated from construction of the line in 1886 to the discontinuance of passenger service on the division in October 1966. Included are narration of the divisions history, the subdivision profile and facilities, and the passenger train operations are enhanced by 329 photographs and 15 maps and profile graphs that fully illustrate what the division was like. Information is also included on the passenger train operations of the Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Railway, which began scheduled operations on November 21, 1886.
