Seller ID: TL205
As far as we know, only two books have ever been done on SCL and its short live successors Family Lines and Seaboard System: our own Seaboard Coast Line Railroad by Douglas Nuckles, and Warren/Clark s Seaboard Coast Lien in Florida.
This new book brings together great SCL photos and text to form a cohesive history of this important system that combined tow of the greatest Southeastern railroads (SAL and ACL) and set the stage for the merger with Chessie System that resulted in today s CSX in 1986.
Author Bill Griffin, a veteran railroad writer and CSX retiree was a long-time official of Richmond Fredericksburg & Potomac, tells the story of this modern giant as it reorganized and consolidated the facilities and operations of Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard Air Line , followed later by Louisville & Nashville and Clinchfield railroads, finally joining Chessie to form CSX. Much material on SCL s high-class passenger service that was operated at a very high level long after many other railroads had given up.
Anyone interested in Southeastern railroading will want this book., It will follow the format and composition of Griffin s previous two TLC books: Seaboard Air line -route of Courteous Service (1999), and Atlantic Coast Line - Standard Railroad of the South (2001).
