Title: Western Pacific on TV (VHS video)
Publisher: Released by Pentrex 1999.
Seller ID: P387
Step back to 1956 and join host Bob Day in a television salute to the Western Pacific Railroad. Richfield's weekly series Success Story combines live telecast with promotional footage to give viewers an inside look at shining examples of American free enterprise. Our program begins at WP's Oakland Yards, with the 1872 Baldwin-built Genoa and 1909 Alco #94 locomotives under steam. A crude wooden combination car is led by the Genoa, and No. 94 heads up Lucius Beebe's elegant Gold Coast. Pulling up to the cameras alongside the steamers is WP's powerful new F-unit, #803-A, the pride of its fleet. (At the time this program was aired, WP had been fully dieselized for three years.) No program about Western Pacific is complete without a good look at the California Zephyr. You'll see many views of the Zephyr on the Feather River Route and in the shops being cleaned and serviced. Highlights include tours of the commissary, linen warehouse, meat lockers, dining car attendants' classroom, and the Sacramento shops. Inside views include the lounge, dining car, and the famous vista domes. Thanks to this historic gem of a film, we can take a nostalgic journey back to the time when Western Pacific was the role model for the American success story! 30 Minutes Black & White with Original Sound and Narration. Packaged in Sturdy Vinyl Clamshell Case. Retail $14.95.
