This film shows the various jobs that need to be done to keep a giant like the Southern Pacific running smoothly and on time. The film was shot when the railroad was mainly all steam. You'll see Daylights traveling along the coast, Cab Forwards pulling freights, rotaries operating in snow storms over Donner Pass, steam on Tehachapi, and a steady stream of passenger trains. Along the way there are also scenes of the track crews at work, the repair and rebuilding of both freight cars and locomotives, passenger service, the dispatching of trains and many of the other jobs that are required to keep the railroad running. 60 Minutes In Color with Narration.
