I entered my address (or other information) incorrectly - how do I change it
Login to your account through Golden Spike's home page. Under the "Navigation" title is the link "Account Maintenance". Click on this link and change or update your information.
I don't like giving my credit card information out over the internet, what happens to that information when I use your site
Frankly, the Internet is MORE secure than giving your card numbers out over the phone. Someone can listen in on your conversation, pick up the signal from your cordless phone or tap into your phone line.
The data is encrypted and is processed on secure servers on the credit card processors site - not on Golden Spike's site. Per the new credit card company agreements, your information must only be available to process the transaction and then be deleted. Golden Spike only receives the last 4 digits of your card number. Therefore no credit card information is "on file". Any merchant who has kept your credit card information is in violation of the agreements.
In 6 years and thousands of card transactions no Golden Spike customer has reported credit card fraud.
Why does it sometimes take longer than 1-2 days for my order to ship
The titles sold on this site are produced by very small publishers. Most are a one-man or husband/wife operation. Often publishing is a part-time endeavor for them. When they go on vacation, to conventions or for personal reasons they are not able to ship, the shipments to Golden Spike are therefore delayed. Still, of the over 1500 titles of railroad books and train videos stocked, only a dozen or so are out of stock at any time.
How will my books be packed I hate to receive damaged books.
Golden Spike uses heat-sealed plastic bags to protect the book inside the box from moisture and rubbing. Then Bubble-wrap and quality grade boxes are used. For some smaller softbound books, a heavy non-bending cardboard mailer will be used.
In 6 years of shipping Golden Spike has had only one damaged shipment. The carrier paid the claim as they acknowledged their mis-handling. Also Golden Spike has had only one lost UPS and two lost USPS shipments in those 6 years.
Do you sell mostly used books
No, Golden Spike sells mostly NEW books. Used books will be listed under "Out of Print Books" or under "Used Books".
I hate remembering passwords. Why do I have to have an account It seems like such a bother.
Your account information is only used for your shipping information, as mentioned in a previous question, there is no storage or presence of credit card data on Golden Spike's site to hack.
Having an account makes it easy to log in and not re-enter your shipping or contact data. Also you can see the status of your order.
Your password can be something easy to remember like your first name. Sorry, but there's nothing a hacker would care to find out here and nothing someone couldn't get from the phone book.
How come some shipments to my country seem to take longer than before
Because of increased security more packages are screened before loading for shipment than ever before. Also your Country's Customs Agency may be screening more packages than before. Processing through Customs will delay the shipment. This is especially true in Canada where Airmail shipments often end up with Surface Mail transit times as Canadian Customs thoroughly inspects packages. They have been known to watch some train tapes now and then.

One DVD video weighs less than a pound. Can it be shipped 1st Class
Yes, Golden Spike will ship single DVD's and smaller books weighing less than 13 ounces via First Class Mail when the customer chooses Media Mail (USA).
How come the shipping charges to my country are so high or not found
Golden Spike has looked at the list of countries the postal insurance companies will not insure packages to. If your country is on that list it is because of too many fraudulent purchases or lost packages or whatever. If the insurance experts will not insure packages to your country, Golden Spike will not ship there.
