Mixed trains were aptly named. The cargo was a mixture of passengers and miscellaneous freight that was hauled by equipment of varied, and sometimes uncertain, parentage along a route that often went from nowhere to oblivion.
The book begins with the early days of the Santa Fe which provides an excellent framework to discuss the early passenger equipment of the railroad. Also this allows the reader to trace the further use of the disposition of cars originally assigned to first-class service and to look at the Santa Fe away from the popular heavily-trafficked main lines.
Equipment rosters, timetables, schedule evolution, passenger car diagrams and many pictures are included.
This classic book on the Santa Fe Railway is a follow-up to the book 'The Doodlebugs' published in 1977.

Katy Southwest is one of the few books published about the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. Published in 1985, just prior to purchase by the Union Pacific Railroad, this book is a pictorial overview of the Katy's steam and diesel power.
Chapters cover all the steam wheel arrangements, doodlebugs, diesel yard power, passenger and freight power. The front and back covers have color pictures on both sides. The remaining pages contain black and white photos with text, captions, and timetable information.

Railroad depots-those old temples to American restlessness-were once a center of both economic and social life in the community. Robert Pound's book is a pleasing event. The territory this book covers includes the western parts of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, as well as the states of Colorado and New Mexico, the Western Lines constitutes the center of the vast Santa Fe System.
