Erie Lackawanna In Color Vol. 6: The Color Photography of William J. Brennan.

This volume, the sixth in the series covering the Erie Lackawanna, covers the mid-60s or the best financial period of the roads troubled 15 plus year history. From 1965 to 1969 except for 1967, the EL enjoyed a positive net income. Freight traffic was generally brisk, new motive power gradually superseded the first-generation diesels and the road made substantial progress in reducing its heavy passenger service deficit.

This book is a selection of photographs from the Railroad Avenue photograph collection. Since Bob Pennisi of Railroad Avenue was employed by the Erie Lackawanna from 1962 to 1977 and worked 'the Erie side', he is able to accurately caption the photographs for the reader.

Photographs cover the late steam-early diesel era of Erie operations in New Jersey. This includes the ferries and commuter trains but also includes some freight action.

Jersey Central Lines In Color Vol. 3.

In the mid Twentieth Century, the Big Little Railroad was never really a financial success. The longest main line run was 191.8 miles from Jersey City to Scranton, Pennsylvania. As the years went by, passenger service turned from an asset to a liability draining millions of dollars from the corporate treasury. Surrounded by competition, first in the form of other railroads and later a web of government financed highways, the CNJ always had to fight for its existence. Despite four bankruptcies, the CNJ served the Garden State for 145 years as a vital transportation link, moving cargo and people until the formation of the quasi-government railroad known as Conrail.
