1 Along the Hudson Division Combo DVD
Pentrex 1992, 2010 1563422735 / 9781563422737 NEW CONDITION DVD

Along the Hudson Division Combo DVD.

Featuring These 2 Shows on 1 Disc!

Along the Hudson Division and Amtrak's Turbo Trains Cab Ride.

The Hudson Division is one of the most scenic and interesting sections of Amtrak ’s Northeast Corridor. Running north/south from Penn Station in New York City to Albany-Rensselaer, it follows the course of the Hudson River and offers beautiful vistas, charming old railway stations, and the special character of the river itself. However, it ’s not just the scenic landscapes that attract railfans to this area. In 1992, when Pentrex documented the line with two video releases, the Hudson Division was FL-9 country. We ’ll take you aboard one of these classic diesels and also treat you to a cab ride on a Turbo Train. Get ready for an exciting tour of the Hudson Division! Included on this combo DVD are:

Along the Hudson Division:
Join Pentrex in the cab and trackside from Penn Station, New York City north to Albany-Rensselaer. The line is home to both Metro North ’s and Amtrak ’s fleet of Electro-Motive FL-9 diesel-electric/electrics. These unique locomotives are the highlight of the tour, but we ’ll also see Amtrak Turbos, Metro North MU cars, and Conrail freights. See Amtrak ’s Westside line from the cab as the train snakes out of cavernous Penn Station. Cross over the newly rebuilt Spuyten Duyvil Bridge, and ride along the shore in this exciting, beautiful journey.

Amtrak ’s Turbo Trains Cab Ride:
Climb aboard an Amtrak Turbo Train for a high-speed run south along the Hudson Division. The ride is as smooth as it is fast and the scenery is spectacular. You ’ll see Conrail freights flash past and meet other Amtrak trains on their northbound journeys. Once in Metro North territory, you ’ll see Metro trains –classic FL-9s and MU cars –busily rushing New York commuters off to the City. Nearing NYC, the line diverges onto Amtrak ’s Westside track. We cross over the bridge at Spuyten Duyvil and end our Turbo Train adventure at Penn Station.

2 Amtrak Across America Combo (DVD)
Pentrex 1993, 1996 1563422859 / 9781563422850 NEW CONDITION DVD

Amtrak Across America Combo (DVD).

Featuring 2 Shows on 1 Disc! Amtrak Across America: 25th Anniversary and Amtrak's X2000 Demonstration.

From the early years when a rainbow mix of motive power and passenger cars pioneered its debut service, Amtrak has been a subject of avid interest to railfans. Pentrex celebrates the first twenty-five years of Amtrak history with two special documentaries. Included on this Combo DVD are:

Amtrak Across America; 25th Anniversary.
Climb aboard for a tribute to the first quarter century of America ’s national passenger train service. Amtrak ’s colorful history rolls across the screen, from the earliest years to the Genesis locomotives and high-speed corridors of the 1990s. Historic footage of passenger trains prior to Amtrak sets the stage. Then you ’ll see great views of Amtrak as it evolved. Highlights include the Southwest Chief, Coast Starlight, Empire Builder, Desert Wind, Sunset Limited, and other well known trains as they travel on the Northeast Corridor, the Hudson Division, Horse Shoe Curve, Chicago Hub, and other famous routes. Travel to scenic locations across the country to see Amtrak at its finest!

Amtrak ’s X2000 Demonstration.
Amtrak ’s search for new equipment to serve the Northeast Corridor allowed ABB-Traction to demonstrate its futuristic X2000 trainset. After initial testing, the X2000 began scheduled revenue service in February 1993, running from Washington, D.C. to New York City and occasionally on to New Haven and back. The sleek, high-speed train amazed everyone with its looks, speed, and ride. Pentrex takes you aboard the train to see how its radial self-steering trucks, car body tilt functions, and regenerative braking systems operate. A cab ride gives you an idea what it ’s like to zip down the corridor at 135 mph. Then we go trackside and airborne for shots of the train racing through the countryside. Join Pentrex for a ride on Amtrak ’s X2000 Demonstration!

5 Amtrak's Northeast Corridor Combo DVD
Pentrex 2005 1563421763 / 9781563421761 NEW CONDITION DVD

The Northeast Corridor was a modern commuter raceway when Pentrex set out to capture this busy line in 1992. So much great footage was filmed with Amtrak's cooperation that two videos were released giving viewers an exclusive, insider's look at Amtrak's pride and joy. Now both shows have been combined on one Combo DVD, bringing you the whole Northeast Corridor story. Included are:

New York City to Philadelphia

Focusing on this electrified heavily-trafficked portion of the line, our program brings you a fascinating mix of old and new technologies. Yet manned block towers dating back to the turn of the century can still be found in use on the line. Experience over 150 Amtrak and commuter trains in action as you visit Penn Station, Hudson Tower, Newark, Trenton, Princeton Junction, and Zoo Interlocking and the venerable A and Zoo towers on your trek from New York City to Philadelphia. (80 minutes)

Philadelphia to Washington, D.C.

Exploring the electrified south end of the system, our cameras capture over 100 commuter and Amtrak trains between Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. You'll see the action at Eddystone, Pennsylvania; Wilmington, Delaware; Perryville, Havre de Grace, Aberdeen, and Baltimore, Maryland; and the D.C. area. You'll also go on a private tour of the CETC control center in Amtrak's 30th Street station and visit Washington Union Station's K tower. A special highlight is a ride in the cab of an AEM7 locomotive at the head of a Metroliner train doing 125 mph! (80 minutes)

11 Early Amtrak Across Wisconsin DVD
Pentrex 2007 1563422093 / 9781563422096 NEW CONDITION DVD

On May 1, 1971, Amtrak became Wisconsin ’s rail passenger carrier. Passenger service along the Burlington Northern ’s Mississippi River Route ended as did all service on the Chicago & North Western. Famous train names such as the Milwaukee Road ’s Hiawathas, C&NW ’s Streamliners, and Burlington Northern ’s North Coast Limited disappeared. When Amtrak began, only the Empire Builder and Chicago-to-Milwaukee corridor service were spared, and the Builder was rerouted from the BN onto the Milwaukee ’s Twin Cities line.

By November, 1971, Amtrak was ready for some new Wisconsin trains. Added were Hiawatha trains to the Twin Cities; North Coast Hiawatha trains to Seattle via Southern Montana; and St. Louis service through Chicago to Milwaukee. Things were looking up for Wisconsin ’s rail passenger service!

The first vestiges of Amtrak paint slowly appeared in 1972 and in 1973 there were brand new Amtrak engines. However, mismatched “Rainbow ” consists were still the rule. GM&O heavyweight parlor cars often appeared as did Denver, Kansas City and California Zephyr Silver dome-observation cars. Soon the E and F locomotives would disappear forever, but in these vintage years they still dominated the trains.

Early Amtrak Across Wisconsin follows Amtrak from the Twin Cities to Southern Wisconsin in the years 1971-73. Locations include such railroading hot spots as St. Croix Junction south of St. Paul, La Crosse, and Duplainville Tower west of Milwaukee. There are scenic views along the Mississippi River and many photo locations in the metro Milwaukee area. The Amtrak trains you will see include:

The Empire Builder
The Hiawatha
The North Coast Hiawatha
The Abraham Lincoln

Also included are views of pre-Amtrak trains along the Burlington Northern ’s now freight-only Mississippi River Route, the Milwaukee Road ’s commuter Cannonball, and many freights on the Milwaukee, BN, and SOO Lines. The 1972 and 1973 Schlitz Brewing Circus Trains appear. Finally, we see Amtrak ’s City of New Orleans, South Wind, Super Chief, and others in the metro Chicago area. You ’ll find great variety in this look at Early Amtrak Across Wisconsin!

12 Empire Builders to Milwaukee DVD
Pentrex 2006 1563422018 / 9781563422010 NEW CONDITION DVD

Privately run intercity passenger service in Milwaukee was a thing of the past by early 1971. The Federal government had formed Amtrak to remove the burden of passenger service from the railroads and insure that core passenger routes remained active. By May 1st, when Amtrak rolled into Milwaukee, things had changed. Milwaukee Road ’s Hiawatha and C&NW ’s bi-level Streamliners were out, but Amtrak ’s Empire Builder was in. Direct rail service was now available all the way to Seattle, but one could no longer travel to Green Bay! All passenger service on C&NW rails was gone, but Amtrak did pick up some Chicago-Milwaukee trains over Milwaukee Road rails.

These new trains looked different, too. Amtrak paint was months away and its first units were made up of mismatched heritage cars and engines that earned them the nickname Rainbow trains (BN green, GN orange and blue, Milwaukee yellow, Burlington silver, NP greens, and others). Their classic motive power included E-9s, F-3s, F-7s, and F-9s.

Empire Builders to Milwaukee takes you back to the six months preceding and following the start of Amtrak service in Milwaukee. You ’ll view the Morning Hiawatha and the C&NW bi-level Streamliners during their last winter and spring of operations as well as Amtrak ’s new Empire Builder and Chicago-Milwaukee corridor service. Also making appearances are freights (many pulled by venerable GP35s and GP9s) on the Milwaukee Road and Soo Line, the commuter Cannonball, and specials including Amtrak ’s Turbo Train on its national tour and the Great Circus Train of 1971. These exciting scenes were filmed at Oconomowoc, Pewaukee, Duplainville, Brookfield, Elm Grove, Wauwatosa, Oak Creek, West Bend, and other Milwaukee metro areas. There ’s plenty to enjoy in this fascinating tribute to Amtrak ’s early Empire Builders!

DVD Special Features: Chapter Menu provides instant access to program segments. Audio Feature provides the option of watching the program with or without narration. Full-screen (4x3) Format. No region code; can be played in any NTSC DVD player worldwide. Packaged in Sturdy Vinyl Clamshell Case.

17 Pennsylvania Railroad GG-1 Vol. 1 & 2 DVD
Railroad Video Productions NEW CONDITION DVD

This tape features the GG-1 in her last years of service for Amtrak, Conrail and New Jersey Transit. See the Pennsy's GG-1 no. 4877 (restored by NJ Transit) in action during her last days of regular service. We open at South Amboy, N.J. at 6:30 a.m. The 4877 is shown in detail lined up in the MU yard with three other GG-1's behind her. Also seen is eastbound N.J. Transit train no.5306 (an F40PH push-pull) with seven cars passing by, an ex-Amtrak E-60 electric arriving on train no.3303, two N.J.T. diesels off train no. 3312 head for the pit as a GG-1 departs with a train for New York City.

Then we get aboard a GG-1, observing close up details of the interior and soon we are on our way over the former New York & Long Branch Railroad, over the Raritan Draw Bridge, pass Wood tower and onto the former Pennsylvania Railroad Perth Amboy and Woodbridge Branch to Rahway (Union Tower) where we are switched to the former P.R.R. main line. Passing Elmora, Lane and Hunter towers (with a stop at Elizabeth station) before arriving at Newark Station. After leaving Newark we pass over the Dock lift bridge (which spans the Passaic River) pass Hudson tower, then over the Portal Draw bridge (spanning the Hackensack River), and through the Jersey Meadowlands before entering the Hudson River Tunnels at Bergen, N.J. then emerging at A tower, Pennsylvania Station, New York City. We then travel to Amtrak's Wilmington Shops ( Wilmington, Delaware ) to observe many retired GG-1 engines in detail.

Jim Abbott shot the original film between 1979 and 1981. Many of the GG-1 engines are seen on their last revenue runs. You will see the G in many paint schemes and from every angle including overhead and Run Over shots. The sound track was carefully matched and edited by Railroad Video Productions from their extensive sound library.

NOTE: Because the GG-I was retired before RR Video Productions acquired Broadcast quality video cameras and recorders, the footage in this program was shot with a consumer type VHS camcorder which does not equal the quality of Broadcast Quality equipment. Because of its historical significance and popular demand RR Video Productions will continue to offer Pennsylvania Railroad GG-I along with their other Broadcast Quality videos.

18 Sunrise-Sunset 4: Fullerton, California DVD
Pentrex 2008 1563422328 / 9781563422324 NEW CONDITION DVD

Sunrise-Sunset 4, A Day at Fullerton, California.

At the Fullerton Station in Southern California, Amtrak ’s Pacific Surfliners, Metrolink commuter trains, BNSF freights, Locals, and other trains glide past the platforms one after the other, sometimes with mere minutes between arrivals and departures. Fullerton is a haven for railfans and photographers and we ’ll show you why!

Pentrex camera crews set up to capture the action at this busy location on a beautiful Fall day in 2007. During the 12 hours from dawn to dusk, over 60 trains passed the station and we filmed them all. Amtrak Pacific Surfliners running between Los Angeles and San Diego are seen throughout the day. Amtrak ’s Southwest Chief makes a daily stop here. During the morning and afternoon peak rush hours, Metrolink turns into a nonstop parade of trains carrying commuters between Los Angeles and Oceanside or Riverside. The traffic is just as heavy for BNSF freights, with plenty of doublestacks plying these rails. There are surprises, too, such a 12-unit power transfer, maintenance of way, and interesting local freights.

Fullerton Station is located on the BNSF San Bernardino Subdivision twenty-five miles east of Los Angeles. Fullerton Junction, where Metrolink ’s Orange Subdivision splits off, is just east of the platform. The traffic on these two Subs keeps the station ’s three tracks in constant use, making this area an exciting hot spot. Join Pentrex for a unique look at a favorite railroading landmark: Fullerton, California — from Sunrise to Sunset!
